My birthday, no phone coverage at Port Smith so I can't talk to Liza or ring my sister in law Esther, whose birthday it is today, so with nothing left to do we are on the road again, heading for Barn Hill Station, approx 50kms away.
As we drove in the road we noted that it was not as good as Port Smith road, then entering the caravan park things looked pretty old and run down. The office was an old tin shed with some tables and chairs on the outside, we later found out that this has a mister to spray down on people to keep them cool.
There was quite a lot of caravans under big trees nearby, which turned out to be the powered sites.
We booked in for 1 night in an unpowered site $22, which was down along the top of the cliff, there are some sites with smaller trees, but we chose one that had some grass which had been mowed, and the site overlooked the ocean.
We decided as we were only staying one night to leave the camper on the car, we set up what we needed, tables, chairs and the awning, then went for a walk to check the amenities.
The ones in the unpowered area are neat corrigated iron, no roof, but who needs that up here, there are 4 shower and 4 toilet cubicles, very clean, hot water for the shower comes from the black pipe lying on the ground, if you shower late it is a cool one, we did the first night, it was ok though. I believe the amenities in the powered sites are standard brick buildings.
Then we walked toward the top of the cliff heading for the beach, OMG it was breathtaking, the beaches stretched out forever.
When we walked down to the beach, I just couldn't believe it, I made the comment to Merv that I had always believed the area where I grew up was the best beaches and scenery anyone would find, but this one just blew that out of the water.
As we walked around an outcrop of rocks we were talking to a couple who had just caught a large estuary cod, as we were there they also caught a queenie.
I went back to the office and booked for another 2 nights, and bought some bait for fishing off the beach later when the tide was coming in.
We caught 2 really nice threadfin salmon.
As there are fish to be caught from the beach we decided not to worry about trying to put the boat in, it would be a beach launch, with no real purpose if enough fish are caught from the beach.
