3rd, 4th, August 2014 Kakadu National Park

Today we head for Kakadu National Park, we intend to stay at Cooinda for 2 nights, make it a base for exploring.
On the way we drove out to Gunlom Falls, we stopped at the information centre to check road conditions, there wasn't a ranger around, the information available advised 4wd do we unhooked the boat, left it in the car park.
The road was 37km, all but the last 10 was corrugations, the last part was definatly 4wd, the sort that travelling at 50kms ph is speeding.
When we arrived at the falls there was a walk to the top where there are more swim holes, when I looked atvthe trail it was steep and went close to the edge climbing over rocks, I knew I wouldn't be able to do that one, so it was a picnic and swim then out to Cooinda.
It was spoil ourselves with dinner at the restaurant.
Next morning we went for a sunrise cruise on yellow waters, it was a glorious experience, lots of birds and wildlife,  including crocodiles with the most amazing water lilies.
There was a yummy breakfast for us when we got back that was included with the cruise.
After breakfast we all went in Neville's car up to the north of Kakadu to a lookout called Ubir.
Boy was this worth the drive, words cannot describe the veiw looking over the wetlands, the different  shades of green mixed with acres of water lilies, on the walk up there was some of the best rock art I have seen.
