2nd August 2014 Leitchfield National Park

Finally left Dundee for the last time heading to Leitchfield National Park.
Merv and I had seen a bit of it years ago but was seeing it with more appreciation.
The first area we stopped was the magnetic termite mounds, these termites like plains areas and the area just looks like a cemetery, grassy with what looks like headstones, all of the termite mounds are built so that there is very little surface for the sun to hit.
The next stop was Wangi Falls, this was magnificent in all areas, there was a great walk up along the escarpment through beautiful trees, they did have fruit bats in one area.
The trail up the hill was mostly paved concrete inlaid with large flat pieces of the coloured stone from the district, it made for very easy walking.
At the bottom there is a very large pool and waterfall which we didn't hesitate to cool off in, the waterfall was amazing, it was the first time I had swam under a large waterfall, unbelievable experience.
There was a cafe at this site so of course we had to have an icecream.
Tolmer Falls was next, this had a boardwalk overlooking the gorge and waterfall for viewing but is closed for public entry as there are two small rare bats that live in the bottom and the parks authorities don't want them disturbed, which is great.
Florence Falls was next, this had a great trail up along the river, rainforest experience, thick bushes, flowers and fish in crystal clear water.
When we arrived at the pool on this one we didn't go for a swim, I cooled off in the creek area, it was pretty rocky at this pool and a lot of people, it was the weekend, a lot of people from Darwin go there to swim as they can't swim at their beaches.
We took another way up from this pool, it was 135 step staircase.
From  there it was Batchelor big4 caravan park, which was very nice, great day had by all
